Obama has a JOBS conference and seeks advise. Anybody with common sense could have told him months ago...the answer is the same answer it has been for the last 30 years! Stop the export of all of our good manufacturing jobs. Instead his people are now looking at infrastructure projects to generate jobs. ...that wouldn't be terrible but Obama says he doesn't have the money, to spend on a lot of infrastructure projects....noooo....he had to give hundred of billions to his banker buddies on Wall Street and spend the rest on Liberal Pipe Dreams! Isn't that something... all his Liberal Pipe Dreams didn't revive the employment market!! He doesn't have any substantive words for the millions of manufacturing jobs that were exported or the unfair trade caused by currency manipulation. He might beg the Chinese but he does nothing worthwhile. Yes the Euro has appreciated from less than a $1.20 American to over $1.50 American, but the Chinese yuan is frozen in concrete. Now who do we have one of our largest trade deficits with...is it Europe or China...(I don't know of any countries we have a trade surplus with).....China of course and we won't get relief until China stops sabotaging the currency markets and allows fair competition. Isn't it outrageous how we don't really have any representation. Both the Republicans & Democrats take turns at corruption and incompetence...and both represent the interests of Wall Street, before us. If we had a thriving manufacturing sector with lots of good paying jobs, we probably wouldn't even be in this terrible recession despite the housing bubble. Look how China has bounced back....they've got manufacturing...tons of it. But the situation could be helped if we stipulated that any country that sabotages the currency markets to its advantage, will not be paid interest on any new U.S. government debt it buys. Yes, if the Chinese government knew, they wouldn't receive any interest on the US Treasury bonds they would be a lot less inclined to buy them. Then maybe the flood of dollars, Chinese exporters bring home, would go unbought by the Chinese government and cause the dollar / renminbi exchange rate to fairly represent the huge American trade deficit.. Of course we would have to phase this stipulation in gradually.
Now I said, we the people (the great majority of us) don't have any representation....which accounts for, how for 30 years, we could have followed a suicidal trade policy...despite the understanding of most common people that the continual decline of American manufacturing and the jobs that go with it, will eventually destroy our economy and well being. How did this lack of sincere representation happen? The current electoral system is very much rigged against progress and the voices of truth. Think about it....how many people are actually faithfully represented...not the ones who voted for the loosing candidates. Even the people who vote for the winners are very frequently displeased....because there are basically only two choices...Republican or Democrat....and you have to settle for who is least bad. . How do we overcome this? First all elections should be subject to a runoff election or counting when no candidate wins a majority of the votes cast. That way you could first, vote for, who you really like the most and save a runoff vote for the major party candidate who is least bad. This would be a tremendous boost for third parties, one of which, with the power of truth, would eventually become a new ruling party. Then we should also amend the Constitution to reduce the House of Representatives to 100 representatives. For sure , we would save a ton of money, with 338 fewer representatives. But more important, would be the way those representatives would be elected and how they would vote in Congress. The candidates would run at large for election...winning the votes of people they represent best across the entire nation...(thanks to the internet). The one hundred top vote getters would be the winners. They wouldn't represent a small area (perhaps a region at smallest) and gone would be all the pork barrel spending, aka earmarks. Instead they would actually represent your opinion ....because from 100 winning candidates, you would almost certainly be sure to find a very close match to your own opinion. And they would vote in Congress, not with one vote, but with the actual vote tally they received in the election! What a DEMOCRACY that would be, incredibly better than now.
